11-14: Monday:

Speech
TIWL: how to select a topic and organize a research folder.
1. QOD - Before selecting an informational topic for a speech what should
you consider?
***** Pass back past papers.
2. Read Informative Speech Directions and Evaluation.
3. Get out envelopes and create Research Folders.
4. Peruse topic lists for upcoming 2-4 minute Speech to Inform (due right after
Thanksgiving, Friday, Dec. 2).
5. Choose a topic by tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.
6. Turn in envelopes tomorrow or Wednesday for points!
7. USE IT: Write in 2-3 topics (or more) that would work for your information speech.

1. Practice the play without scripts if you can in the cafeteria.
Memorization grades start today.

11-15: Tuesday:

Speech
TIWL: how to create a visual aid and how to paraphrase research.
1. QOD - What main items should you consider when creating a visual aid?
2. Visual Aid Information/Examples
3. Turn in envelops and topic sign-up.
4. Copyright, plagiarism and paraphrasing lesson. Take notes on your folder.
5. Write the "USE IT."

11-16: Wednesday:

Speech
TIWL: to paraphrase without plagiarism and to cite my source.
1. QOD –– Why might internet websites be a bad place to look for research?
2. TOPIC SIGN UP.
3. Hand out folders. Add places to look for preview points and how to check
reliability of websites.
4. Proceed to the library for Database review. On an index card, paraphrase at
least one piece of support for your information speech in the library and place it
in one of your research folder envelopes.
5. Write the source info on a blue source sheet and place it in your research folder;
(Option 2: If the database article gives you the exact citation, copy and paste
it to a Word document and save it in your computer folder.)
6. 10 points for your use of time each day in the library.

1. QOD - From which North databases might you find information for your
topic. (List your topic and the databases)
2. Bibliography notes.
3. Library Day 2- north side.
4. On index cards or paper, paraphrase more support for your information speech
in the library.
Write the source info on a blue source sheets and place it in your research folder.
5. 10 points for your use of time.

Speech
TIWL: to use databases, books, and internet to find info for our speech to inform
and to cite the sources I find.
1. QOD - What is the general order of most items in a citation for a
bibliography. (Hint: 1. Author's last name . . . .)
3. Library- Day 3 - Research your topic and collect source info on information
you will use. Show to Mrs. Cox by end of hour for 10 pts.
4. When done researching, begin to type your speech.
Reread your orange Information Speech Directions
and use your yellow Formula for Writing Speeches!
5. By the end of the hour on Tuesday after Thanksgiving you will need to
have finished your manuscript, visual aid and Bibliography
(Works Cited) and outlined cards if time. Speeches begin Friday, Dec.2.
